Wednesday afternoon’s brief lockdown at Saucon Valley schools was initiated after the parent of a former student allegedly threatened two administrators, Supt. Monica McHale-Small said in an email.
“We became aware of the threat via the police and we locked down the campus on their recommendation for a very brief period,” she said, adding that the district “took all precautions and…halted transportation and advised parents and guardians.”
McHale-Small said the district never had any indication that the suspect was on the school campus, and that he was in fact taken into custody by police off-campus.
“No one was in any immediate danger,” she said. “The lockdown was conducted swiftly and with extreme professionalism. Calm was maintained and instruction continued in many classrooms throughout the lockdown.”
So far Lower Saucon Township Police have not released any information about the alleged suspect or whether charges will be filed in the case.
Parents reacted swiftly to the news of a lockdown by posting questions and concerns on Facebook, where several commented that the situation was “scary.”
