Winner: Kiele Riefenstahl
Kiele won the Colonial League Championship at DeSales University last week with a time of 19:46.20. Kiele felt little competition from the rest of the field as she was able to open up a 27 second lead on the second place finisher!
In an era of sport specialization and selfish coaches who want their athletes to focus solely on their sport, it is amazing to see what Kiele has accomplished this year. She has dominated the Colonial League in cross country and has been a part of the girls soccer team, who had one of the best regular seasons in recent memory. Her decision to play multiple sports is an important one for young Saucon athletes to follow: You do not need to specialize to have success. Skills from one sport can and will transfer over to another. The training she gets at soccer practice is something her competition in cross country is not getting. So, congrats to Kiele for winning her first (of hopefully many) championships!
I also want to recognize Coach Stevie Ochse and Coach Ed Kolosky for allowing an athlete to play multiple sports. I know it can’t be easy to allow an athlete to miss practice time because of another sport. Credit goes to you coaches for supporting a young athlete following her heart and putting her best interests ahead of yours!
