Bumble Bee Tuna Recalled Due to ‘Life-Threatening’ Bacteria

Following a recall by Bumble Bee Seafoods, GIANT Food Stores announced Thursday that it’s removed from sale certain canned chunk light tuna products due to problems with the sterilization process used during the packing of the tuna.

Following a recall by Bumble Bee Seafoods, GIANT Food Stores announced Thursday that it’s removed from sale certain canned chunk light tuna products due to problems with the sterilization process used during the packing of the tuna.

“These products could have bacteria or other pathogens that could result in life-threatening illness if consumed,” the supermarket chain said.

The following products are included in the recall:Tuna

  • Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 5 oz., UPC 8660000020 with best by dates of02/10/2019, 02/16/2019, 02/17/2019, 02/18/2019, 02/22/2019, 02/23/2019 or 02/25/2019
  • Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water 4 pack, 5 oz., UPC 8660000736 with best by dates of02/09/2019, 02/10/2019, 02/22/2019, 02/29/2019

GIANT said it has received no reports of illnesses to date.

Customers who have purchased any of the recalled products should discard unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to any GIANT store for a full refund.

Locally there is a Giant Food Store located at 1880 Leithsville Road in Lower Saucon Township.
