A dilapidated dam across the Saucon Creek just south of the Water Street Bridge will be removed, after Lower Saucon Township Council approved a demolition plan Wednesday night, according to a Morning Call article.

Hellertown Borough Council already said they wanted the project to proceed.

According to the Morning Call story, the removal is tentatively scheduled for 2018 and will cost about $50,000, which will be paid for with state grant funding.

An official from the Wildlands Conservancy, a nonprofit environmental organization that is developing a restoration plan for the stream in the area of the dam, said removing it will help reduce flooding in the area and also create a superior habitat for fish by introducing more oxygen to the water.
