Note: The following information was provided in a news release from Giant Food Stores.
Following a recall by Hostess Brands, LLC, Giant Food Stores announced Sunday that it’s removed from sale certain Hostess snack cake and donut products that may contain peanut residue, which is not included in ingredient lists. These products are safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a peanut allergy.
The following products are included in the recall:
- Hostess donettes – Powdered Mini Donuts, 10.5 oz., UPC 88810915004 with a Batch code of D032121000
While those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of experiencing a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume products containing peanut allergens, the amount of peanut exposure from use of the flours and affected products is considered to be low and not expected to cause adverse health effects in the vast majority of peanut allergic consumers.
Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; and loss of consciousness.
Customers who have purchased this product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to any Giant for a full refund.
