A 5-year-old Newark, N.J., boy was killed and a 2-year-old girl was injured along with two adult women after the Nissan Versa they were riding in veered off I-78 East, struck a guard rail and then was hit by an oncoming Kia Forte and Dodge Caravan near mile marker 70.6–several miles east of the Hellertown exit in Lower Saucon Township–early Wednesday morning, the Morning Call reported.

According to the article, the boy was in a car seat that was ejected in the crash, which closed the highway for many hours from Exit 67 east. Open alcohol containers were found inside the Versa driven by 54-year-old Nadine Walton of Newark, N.J., according to the report, which cites Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast.

Traffic was reportedly being detoured through Hellertown and creating major delays in the Saucon Valley area.

State Police have not yet named the child killed in the crash.
