Following a recall by Kellogg Company, GIANT Food Stores announced Tuesday that it has removed from sale Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles due to the potential for the waffles to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.eggo

The following product is included in the recall:

  • Kellogg’s Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles, 12.3 oz., 10-ct Carton, UPC 3800040370, with Best Before Dates of NOV 21 17 and NOV 22 17.

GIANT said it has received no reports of illnesses to date.

Listeria is a common organism found in nature. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, however, can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis, which can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in people with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or who are undergoing chemotherapy.

Customers who have purchased the recalled product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to any GIANT store for a full refund.

Consumers looking for more information about the recall can call Kellogg’s at 1-800-962-1413 or GIANT Customer Service at 1-888-814-4268.
