If Saturday’s scrimmage was any indication, the Saucon Boys Basketball team will have a very successful season this year.

On Saturday, Salisbury and Nazareth Boys Basketball teams traveled to Saucon for a scrimmage between the three teams. The 10-minute periods for each game were a perfect chance to see the strengths and weaknesses of each team.

Saucon played Nazareth in the second game of the scrimmage. Senior Cody Zrinski proved he not only succeeds on the football field, but also the basketball court, putting his team on the board first with 2 points. Team captains Will Smith and Josh Snead as well as Cam Allen were big contributors to the game. The final score was Saucon 18-5.

Immediately following the win against Nazareth, the Panthers took on Salisbury.   The Panthers had much better shooting accuracy than the Falcons. Although Salisbury scored in the last minute, they couldn’t pull ahead of Saucon. The Panthers then scored in the last 40 seconds and the final score was 12-7 Saucon.

Showing a lot of athleticism, the Panthers beat Nazareth for a second time with a score of 15-11.

The next time Saucon took on Salisbury, the Falcons were the first to score. But the Panthers scored next. It was an exciting scrimmage, but the Panthers had the highest number on the scoreboard after the 10-minute period, with a score of 21-18.

When Saucon faced off against Nazareth again, they were not able to pull ahead, bu lost by only 2 points. Nazareth beat Saucon 13-11.

The last time Saucon played Salisbury, the Panthers were first on the board but the Falcons were stronger at the end of the game. The Falcons won 17-9.

Coach Matt Brown said of his team’s first time facing other teams this season, “It was a good learning experience. We have things to work on but a lot of positives to take away from the scrimmages.”

Senior Captain Will Smith feels very optimistic about this season.

“We like to run and gun,” he said. “If we play our style we should win a lot of games.”

The Panthers will have another scrimmage at home on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m., when they will face off against both Easton and Upper Perkiomen.
