The Panthers played their second basketball scrimmage Tuesday night at home. This time they faced off against out-of-conference teams Easton (EPC) and Upper Perkiomen (Pioneer-Frontier League).
There were nine total games lasting 10 minutes each. That was just enough time for each team to size up their opponent.
The first game was Upper Perk against Easton. Easton pulled out a narrow 9-8 win.
In the next game, the Panthers took the court against Upper Perk. In a repeat of Saturday’s scrimmage, Cody Zrinski put the Panthers on the board first. Cam Allen and co-captains Will Smith and Josh Snead added to the score to get the Panthers their first win of the night, and the Panthers beat Upper Perk, 16-14.
Saucon was warmed up for the next game, but had the lower score on the scoreboard when the buzzer sounded. Easton won the game 13-10.
The next matchup between Upper Perk and Easton ended with Easton winning again. The final score was 11-8.
Saucon played Upper Perkiomen next. Although Upper Perk scored first, Saucon pulled ahead and never lost their lead. Cam Allen, Josh Snead, Will Smith, Cole Gilotti and Brad Yeahl contributed to the win. The final score was Saucon 16, Upper Perk 6.
When the Panthers played Easton for the second time, they unfortunately had the same result as the first time they played each other. Easton started out strong and although the Panthers tried to pull ahead, they couldn’t get past Easton’s strong defensive play. The end result was Easton 16, Saucon 8.
In the seventh game of the night, Upper Perkiomen pulled off their only win against Easton in their third matchup, 9-6.
In their third game against Upper Perk, the Panthers came out strong and stayed in the lead the entire 10-minute period. The Panthers contributing to this win were Matt Smith with 6 points, Cam Allen with 4 points and Jake Nichols with 3 points. Josh Snead added his 2 points in the very last second. The Panthers had a convincing win with a final score of 15-6.
Saucon took on Easton in the last matchup of the night. Easton again played a strong defensive game. Saucon fought back and fought hard, but Easton ended with 2 more points than Saucon. Easton was the winner of the final game 11-9.
The scrimmage was a successful one and proved that the Panthers can keep up with teams from much bigger leagues.
Co-captain Josh Snead believes his team will go far this year.
The senior said, “I think we’re going to have a very successful season. We have a little bit of fine tuning to do. Looking to win a championship this year is our biggest goal.”
The Panthers are coached by Matt Brown.
