Walter E. Granlund, 93, of Macungie, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Lorraine L. (Lesko) Granlund and Shirley L. (Bickel) Granlund.

Walter E. Granlund, 93, of Macungie, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Lorraine L. (Lesko) Granlund and Shirley L. (Bickel) Granlund. Walter was born in Cromwell, Minn., on July 20, 1923 to the late Frank and Anna Maria (Sarrela) Granlund. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. He worked as a geologist at the former New Jersey Zinc Company, Center Valley, for many years until retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bethlehem. Walt was a kind, gentle man, always ready to smile, who enjoyed life and being outside. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and will be sorely missed.

SURVIVORS

Children: Stephen W. Grandlund of Macungie, Carol J. (Ernest A.) Natalie of Center Valley, Patricia L. (David C.) Walbert of Alburtis, Gregory S. (Barbara K.) Willman of Center Valley; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

SERVICE

The service will be private at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The interment will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Cromwell, Minn. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
