A new Saucon Valley High School principal will be appointed at the May 23 meeting of the Saucon Valley School Board, according to an emailed announcement from superintendent Dr. Monica McHale-Small that was sent to parents Friday.
Beth Guarriello “has been a proud educator in some form for the past 28 years,” McHale-Small said.
In addition to hailing from a family of educators, Guarriello’s qualifications include:
- A bachelor of science degree in secondary education (with an emphasis in biology and chemistry) from Penn State as well as two master’s degrees in curriculum and educational leadership from Wilkes University
- Teaching experience in the subjects of biology and chemistry–as well as various electives–at Council Rock High School, Boiling Springs High School, Parkland High School and Liberty High School, which is where Guarriello “spent most of her teaching career,” according to the email
- Recipient of MIT’s Inspirational Teaching Award (March 2014), the American Chemical Society’s Outstanding Teacher Award (June 2012) and Bethlehem Area School District’s Teacher of the Year Award (2011)
- Science Department Chair at Liberty High School
- Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at Liberty High School
“After leaving Liberty High School, Mrs. Guarriello moved to Southern Lehigh High School as the 9/10 Assistant Principal,” McHale-Small said. “There Mrs. Guarriello has had a wide variety of experiences including teacher supervision and improvement, creation and implementation of school-wide professional development; curriculum development, writing and articulation; master schedule and enrichment period scheduling; test administration, student discipline and guidance coordination.”
“Beth has been married for 28 years to her husband Henry, who is an architect and works at a local engineering firm,” she added. “Together they have three children: Rachel, who is currently a doctoral student in material science and engineering at the University of Virginia, Marissa who is the orchestra director at Palisades School District and who is also a master’s degree student at the Eastman School of Music, and David who is a student at Pennsylvania College of Technology where he is pursuing three degrees, studying construction management, civil engineering and business management.”
Parents and community members are invited to meet Guarriello during a “meet-and-greet” Wednesday, May 17 at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
Former assistant high school principal Ken Napaver has been the acting Saucon Valley High School principal since former principal Eric Kahler resigned at the start of the 2016-2017 school year.
