Hellertown police issued a banking-related scam alert to residents via their Facebook page Thursday afternoon.

Police said they have received “a report of two suspicious individuals claiming to be BB&T Bank employees going door-to-door asking residents for their bank account information.”

BB&T has confirmed the individuals are not bank employees, and door-to-door solicitation is “not a practice for ANY banking institution,” police emphasized.

Residents’ account information should always be kept well-guarded, they added.
