The packaging involved many busy hands and took place in the Middle School’s Hanlon Center gym on the Upper Saucon Township campus.

CRS is an international charity that helps people at risk due to food insecurity.

The meals packed by St. Mike’s students are destined to help feed residents of Burkina Faso, a nation where cyclical drought and flooding have made food scarce. Catholic Relief Services is also helping to improve sustainability with projects like the building of irrigation canals there.

One in five people are at risk of malnourishment in Burkina Faso, and worldwide, one in eight people (or about 870 million people) faces some form of food insecurity.

Hunger and malnutrition are the number one risks to health worldwide; risks that are greater than AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined, according to CRS.
