An Allentown man who was shocked with a Taser by Hellertown police outside the 7-Eleven convenience store at 1100 Main Street Tuesday refused to comply with police orders, according to a news release issued by the department Thursday.
Michael Ruhs, 55, was involved in a traffic stop that police conducted around 2:15 p.m. at the 7-Eleven.
Ruhs was apparently the driver of or a passenger in a white pick-up truck along with several other men who were seen at the stop.
The news release doesn’t specify the nature of the traffic stop, or that a Taser was used, although eyewitnesses at the scene reported its use and photos of a handcuffed Ruhs taken by Saucon Source during the incident show a bullseye mark on his back consistent with the use of the device.
He “left the scene of the stop, and refused to comply with the stop,” police said. After that an officer apparently tazed him, although it remains unclear which officer did so. The news release from Hellertown Police says additional information can be found in Hellertown Police Report #182811.
Ruhs was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, according to the news release, but the charges aren’t yet listed in the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania Web Portal online database.
The incident drew a sizeable, rapid police response involving borough and Lower Saucon Township officers.
