’06 Orange

  • 3-1 loss to STA Morris United
  • Coaches: Scott Cullen and Brandon Chambers

It was a battle for 1st Place when the ’06 Orange Boys competed with STA at the Morris County fields in New Jersey on Saturday.  The Steelers got off to a slow start surrendering a goal to STA about halfway through the opening half.  Steel picked up the tempo and responded with a Bailey Veltri blast that shaped nicely just inside the far post from about 20-yards out. Veltri’s goal seemed to stoke the confidence of the Steelers as they seemed to pick up their pace.  However, STA broke through for a couple more goals in the second half.  Steel lost to a very good STA team 3-1.

’06 Black

  • 3-1 WINNERS over Forks Soccer Club
  • Coaches: Brandon Chambers and Scott Cullen

FC Steel ’06 Black started slow but finished red hot.  Playing to a 0-0 halftime tie, Steel and Forks headed to the break after a defensive struggle.  But, Jayden Vasquez stepped up not once, but twice to get the Steelers on the scoreboard.  About five minutes into the second half Vasquez  made a run past a couple defenders down the sideline and then beat the keeper to the top shelf just inside the near post.  His second came about four minutes later while he and teammate Noah Jellison were cleaning up a loose ball in the box.  Forks did answer courtesy of a penalty kick with about ten minutes remaining in the game.  But, FC Steel’s Cain Wessner closed out all scoring when he took an Abel “Bailey” Veltri feed into the box from the far corner to finish.  All said and done, it was a great 3-1 victory for the Orange Steelers.

The FC Steel 2006 Boys Black team scored three second half goals on Sunday for the win.

’07 Orange

  • 1-1 Draw with CAPS Monaco
  • Coaches: Brandon Chambers and Scott Cullen

This weekend saw the FC Steel ’07 Orange team in a battle with a great CAPS Monaco team from New Jersey. In the first half  both teams battled to a 0-0 tie where FC Steel defense and goalie Joey Varano made some incredible stops. The second half was much of the same with the defense and Goalies shutting down the offense most of the half. With about six minutes left in the game Monaco was able to finally connect and score the games first goal. The Steel boys weren’t going to be outdone and during their next possession moved the ball up the field.  Some flashy passing led to Jayden Olivencia making a great cross to the middle from the right wing where Bryan Higgins finished the play with a phenomenal header that found the back of the net.  This epic battle fittingly ended in a 1-1 draw.

’07 Black

’08 Boys

  • fell 2-1 to Match Fit Montclair United
  • Coach: Scott Cullen

The FC Steel Boys 2008 Black team looked to keep the momentum from last week’s tournament championship as they played the Match Fit Montclair United 2008 Boys Blue team in Montclair, NJ.  However, it wasn’t meant to be as the boys dropped the match by a score of 2-1 to move their league record to 1-1-2.  Stepan Goudsouzian started the Steel off with a goal to take the lead, but the Match Fit boys scored the next two goals to make it 2-1.  The Steel worked hard to move the ball into the offensive zone, but were unable to convert their chances.  The boys get a well-deserved bye week next weekend before kicking off the second half of the season in Wayne, NJ.
