A man with a rifle on his shoulder and bullets on his side was reported by a student to be walking along the perimeter of the Saucon Valley School District campus Wednesday morning, but police from the borough of Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township responded to the area and found no evidence of someone fitting that description “anywhere within the vicinity of the campus,” Superintendent Dr. Craig Butler said in an email to parents.
According to Butler’s email, a teacher reported that a student claimed to have seen the man, and the teacher then reported the alleged sighting to middle school administrators.
Butler said the two local police departments responded “immediately” and checked the campus as well as surrounding areas, finding no one.
“All safety precautions were observed by the school district,” Butler added.
Anyone with information about this report should contact the Lower Saucon Township Police Department at 610-317-6110 or submit a tip via the department’s Crimewatch website.
The issue of safety and security on the Saucon Valley School District campus has been much-discussed recently, with the administration holding a Community Outreach meeting about it earlier this month, and a parent requesting that the district hire a full-time School Resource Officer.
