A subsidiary of a Minnesota company has been issued a permit by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to open a medical marijuana dispensary in the Saucon Square shopping center on Rt. 378 in Lower Saucon Township, the Morning Call reported Tuesday.
According to the story, although the permit is one of three issued by the state to planned dispensaries in the Northeast region, the township has not yet issued any permits to medical marijuana companies nor was it aware of the plans by Pennsylvania Dispensary Solutions LLC–a subsidiary of Minneapolis-based Vireo Health–to open a dispensary in the township.
The state Department of Health on its website lists the Lower Saucon Township dispensary as a secondary facility for Pennsylvania Dispensary Solutions, whose primary facility will be located at 1146 S. Main Ave. in Scranton, Lackawanna County. It also erroneously lists the Lower Saucon dispensary as being located in Lehigh County.
Medical marijuana available by prescription was legalized in Pennsylvania in April 2016 and the first dispensaries in the Commonwealth opened in February of this year.
