Hellertown police are asking for the public’s help with identifying a man they say used counterfeit $100 bills to purchase gift cards at two borough drugstores earlier this month.

In a news release issued Friday police said the “dark-skinned male” first entered Rite Aid at 110 Main St., Hellertown, where he allegedly purchased Visa gift cards with the counterfeit.

Police said they took a complaint following the incident at Rite Aid on Jan. 3 at 7:49 p.m.

Subsequent to his visit to Rite Aid police said the same man went to CVS at 1332 Main St., Hellertown “and also purchased gift cards with $100 counterfeit bills.”

“In both cases the male left on foot an in an unknown direction,” police added. “It is not known if a vehicle was involved.”

Police provided no further physical description of the man in the news release, nor did they release surveillance images from either business.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call borough police at 610-759-2200.
