A motorist had to be taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson Campus for treatment of a suspected minor injury following an accident last month in which state police say he struck a deer that ran across the highway in front of his vehicle.
In a news release issued Thursday, Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast said the 67-year-old Allentown man was driving westbound near mile marker 64.4 on I-78 in Lower Saucon Township “when all of a sudden a deer ran onto the interstate.”
After hitting the deer at about “its 12 o’clock position,” police said the man’s 2010 Dodge Caravan minivan came to rest in the left westbound shoulder of I-78, facing westward.
Although the driver complained of neck pain following the accident, police said his 32-year-old male passenger was not injured.
The driver was taken to the hospital by Dewey EMS of Hellertown, police said.
According to the news release, the crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. March 26.
