The Upper Saucon Township Water Department has announced that it will be flushing township fire hydrants from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting Monday, May 13, and continuing through Friday, May 24. The flushing may cause some water discoloration for residents in the area of the hydrants.

The discolored water doesn’t represent a health hazard and anyone who experiences discoloration of their tap water shouldn’t be alarmed, officials said in a statement Monday. Residents whose water is discolored are advised to run the cold water from the faucet nearest their water meter in order to flush their home’s water line.

“The flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for both firefighting and domestic consumption,” the statement said.
