Homeless Shelter Grant

Northampton County is addressing the serious problem of homelessness via a grant-funding partnership with a federal agency, according to a Dec. 9 news release from County Executive Lamont G. McClure.

“The plight of the homeless is a national problem and frankly a national disgrace, but it is our job to take care of our own small part of the world,” McClure said in the release. “To that end, we are announcing in partnership with the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development our most recent Emergency Solution Grants for Northampton County.”

The largest grant, $76,000, will go to Safe Harbor Easton to provide emergency shelter services. Another $30,000 grant will fund emergency shelter services at Greater Shiloh Church in Easton.

The Bethlehem Area Shelter and Easton’s Third Street Alliance will receive $25,000 and $27,114, respectively, for emergency shelter services.

Valley Health Partners Community Health Center will receive $20,000 to provide primary health care services to outreach programs and shelters through its Street Medicine Program.

Safe Harbor Easton will also receive $9,652 to assist the county in mandatory reporting requirements using the HMIS system.
