SCHOOL BOARD COMMITTEE MEETINGS CANCELED: Facilities & Finance Committee meetings are canceled for Wednesday, Jan. 15.
UPCOMING SCHOOL CLOSURES: SVSD will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 20-21, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 20) and a teacher in-service (Jan. 21).
SAUCON VALLEY HS PRINCIPAL RESIGNS: High School Principal Teresa Casimire has submitted her resignation, effective Feb. 13. District Superintendent Jaime Vlasaty said, “Ms. Casimire has served our school community with dedication and passion for the past two years. We are grateful for the positive impact Ms. Casimire has had on our Saucon Valley students, staff and families. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Ms. Casimire for her hard work, dedication and leadership during her time at our school. On behalf of the Saucon Valley School District, I wish her all the best in her future endeavors and I know that she will continue to positively impact the lives of others wherever she goes.” Superintendent Vlasaty announced that Dr. Richard Kaskey, a former Nazareth Area School District superintendent, has agreed to serve as the Interim Principal. She said, “Dr. Kaskey brings a wealth of experience, leadership and a deep commitment to student growth, support and achievement. We are excited to welcome him in this capacity and as part of our Panther family.”
MIND OF AN ATHLETE PROGRAM with Dr. Jarrod Spencer: Wednesday, Jan. 15, “Energy: How Emotion Fuels Performance,” High School Auditorium, 6:30 p.m. (open to parents and community members).
RACHEL’S CHALLENGE: On Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. the district will host a community event led by Rachel’s Challenge, which is an organization founded in memory of Columbine victim Rachel Scott. Dedicated to creating positive school cultures and reducing school violence, the program by Rachel’s Challenge is open to the public and aims to spark a “chain reaction of kindness and compassion” by encouraging students, staff and community members to make positive choices, foster inclusivity and build a supportive school environment.

MASCOT NAMING CONTEST: The district’s Panther Mascot Naming Contest is underway, and all SVSD classrooms are invited to get creative. Through Friday, Jan. 17, each classroom will brainstorm and submit a name for the mascot. On Jan. 21, the district will reveal the top five finalists so the community can help decide who the winner is. The public will vote for their favorite name, with voting ending on Jan. 30. GIRLS ON THE RUN CONCLUDES SEASON: On Dec. 8, the Saucon Valley Elementary Girls on The Run participants ran a 5K at Desales University. Girls on The Run focuses on team building, kindness and being the best version they can be of themselves. The girls prepare all season to complete a 5K race to mark the end of their season.
