SVMS 7th Graders Competing in ‘What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?’

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Our names are Eleanor W. and Beverly W. We are 7th graders at Saucon Valley Middle School. We participate in our school’s iTeam. For 13 years, Saucon Valley Middle School has been involved in a local Lehigh Valley contest known as “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing.” As the thirteenth group of students working on the competition, we are very excited to be a part of this contest.

As participants, we were tasked with creating an original, entertaining video on the values of manufacturing. Every year, we receive a new manufacturing company to represent. This year, we are representing Allen Organs in Macungie, Pa.

Allen organs are high quality and there are many options of colors and designs to choose from. These products are used for different types of religious ceremonies, celebrations, sporting events and many other things. They are not pipe organs; instead they use an electronic soundboard inside the organ to make the sounds more consistent.

Making this video has been so much fun. It’s been an amazing experience to become part of the iTeam family. We have learned so much and have worked on this video for months. This video allowed us to be creative and technical at the same time.

We had a lot of fun and learned a lot interacting with the employees on our field trip to Allen Organ Company. We had a chance to see all parts of their manufacturing process and view their machines in action. The entire process has been an amazing experience.

Participating in this contest has provided us with a deeper understanding of manufacturing. Everything we use daily is the result of manufacturing, created by someone who dedicated time to learn, engaged with the world to bring it to life and perhaps even shared their knowledge with middle school students to inspire them to explore and understand the world around them.

This year we are competing against 29 other schools in the Lehigh Valley. We would love your votes and support to help us win this year. You can vote between March 17 and March 19. The awards ceremony will be held March 26 at Stabler Arena.

Thank you!
