Crushcrete Now Offers Mulch, Stone for Landscaping Projects

Crushcrete
Anyone can purchase landscaping materials at Crushcrete, which is conveniently located just off I-78 and Rt. 412 near Hellertown. The family-owned business recently began offering both mulch and stone and plans to sell topsoil in the future.

If you’ve been wondering where to buy mulch and loose stone in the Saucon Valley area, look no further than Crushcrete.

The family-owned concrete recycling business on Silvex Road just north of the Hellertown exit on I-78 recently expanded its offerings to include triple ground black and brown mulch, along with three sizes of river rock and a pebble blend. Pricing, measurements and photos of the products may be found on the Crushcrete website.

Crushcrete general manager Wayne Miller said the decision to offer additional products is emblematic of Crushcrete’s commitment to the community, which has lacked a convenient destination for bulk landscaping materials since a Hellertown home and garden center closed nearly five years ago.

Started in 1998, Crushcrete’s core business is concrete, stone and masonry rubble recycling. Customers bring things like old sidewalk slabs to the facility, where the debris is then turned into other products and thereby kept out of landfills.

The business is owned by Tony and Maria Medei, who also owns Casilio Concrete in Bethlehem. Maria is the president of Casilio, which was founded by her grandfather Frank Casilio in 1938, and Tony Medei oversees operations at Crushcrete.

Miller and Tony Medei are both Lower Saucon natives, and all three call the township home.

“We live in the community and support the community,” Miller said.

Crushcrete sponsors a Hellertown-Lower Saucon Little League Team which Miller coaches, and Casilio donated concrete for new batting cages that were installed by the league.

The business also supports local youth in other ways. For example, Miller said they often donate materials to young people working on Eagle Scout projects.

Crushcrete is open to both contractors and individuals as well as municipal customers. Miller said that the local municipalities and public works departments are supplied by the business.

In the landscaping materials area, Miller said they also plan to offer topsoil in the future, and if there is something out of the ordinary that a customer needs the staff at Crushcrete do their best to fulfill special requests.

Delivery of landscaping materials is available (fees and order minimums apply).

Crushcrete is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and is now also open Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon. The business is located at 1965 Silvex Road, Bethlehem. First-time visitors should note that access is via the entrance to the PennDOT park ‘n ride lot on the north side of Silvex Road.
