Hellertown’s Newest Recreational Amenities Nearing Completion

Just in time for summer, new recreational facilities that have been under construction in Hellertown borough are nearing completion.
A new basketball court in Dimmick Park is expected to be mostly completed by the end of April and the renovated Gregory Park at Third Avenue and Easton Road should be mostly finished by June 1, borough manager Cathy Hartranft said Tuesday.
Hartranft said the basketball court and adjacent parking lot will be line-painted once recently-poured asphalt has cured.
“At Gregory Park, we are waiting on the certified playground installer to install the remaining equipment,” she said, adding that “the Borough is excited to provide these improvements to our park system for everyone to enjoy.”
As part of its overhaul, Gregory Park is receiving a new basketball court, new playground equipment atop a safety surface, an ADA-accessible pathway, new fencing and landscaping.
Funding for the basketball court included a grant for $212,500 from Northampton County’s Livable Landscapes program and a DCNR grant for $200,000 to construct a fenced-in basketball court, transform a section of the swale south of Durham Street into a green stormwater channel, and add ADA ramps and sidewalk improvements, Hartranft said. Gregory Park funding includes $396,767 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority Local Share Account and $50,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Economic Development & Community Development Initiatives.
