Freemansburg’s Main Street Project on Schedule, Manager Says

Freemansburg Main St.
Patience and planning have been helpful for anyone trying to drive through Freemansburg, due to an ongoing project that involves the reconstruction of Main Street, which is a major route for traffic between South Bethlehem and Hellertown and Bethlehem Township. Pictured above is what the project looked like in the area of Main and Monroe streets last week.

Although it’s been trying for many residents and visitors to Freemansburg borough to deal with traffic delays and detours related to the reconstruction of Main Street that began last year, the good news is that the end of the project is in sight.

Borough manager and police chief Jonathan Itterly said last week that the project “is still on schedule and should be completed sometime in July 2025,” according to the contractor.

The extensive project–which received state grant funding–began last fall and includes the full reconstruction of the roadway, new sidewalks, new stone curbing, new crosswalks, new decorative lighting and gas main upgrades, among other things.

Except for local traffic, most vehicles have been detoured around the heart of the borough via Washington Street, Cambria Street and Market Street while the work is taking place.
