Water Main Break Affects Service in Hellertown
UPDATE: As a result of the water main break, the Hellertown Borough Authority issued a boil water advisory for all of its customers Thursday evening. “Due to the loss of positive pressure in portions of our system and in an effort to ensure the highest level of safety, we are advising all customers of the water system to boil water prior to consuming, using it for cooking, drinking or brushing of teeth,” it said. The HBA said some customers wouldn’t have service restored until Friday, and that it would issue additional notifications to all customers by the end of the day.
The Hellertown Borough Authority is working to repair a water main break that was first reported to residents Thursday afternoon.
At 8 p.m., borough officials said the immediate area of the break had been isolated and crews were working to restore water levels throughout the system.
While most properties are expected to regain service, officials noted that some areas—specifically higher-elevation sections of town and properties around the golf course—will not have water service restored until the main break is fully repaired.
“Every effort is being made to complete this work as soon as possible,” the Borough Authority stated.
The Borough of Hellertown first alerted residents to the “significant” water main break in a Facebook post late Thursday afternoon.
