Karyl E. Laub (1933 – 2026)

Karyl E. Laub, affectionately known as “Grammy Karyl,” 92, of Hellertown, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin Lovin Laub (April 16, 2016). Born in Hellertown on Nov. 16, 1933, Karyl was the daughter of the late Paul F. and Helen (Adams) Kugler. A devoted homemaker, she dedicated her life to caring for others. For more than 50 years, Karyl operated a daycare out of her home, where she touched the lives of countless children and families. Known fondly as Grammy Karyl, she was respected for her structure, patience and strong educational foundation, guiding both youth and adults with compassion and purpose. Karyl was a faithful and active member of First United Church of Christ, Hellertown, where she devoted many years of service. She served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, sharing her love of learning and faith with generations of children.

SURVIVORS

She is survived by her children: Janis Weaver of Lower Saucon Township, James Laub (Sally) of Ocala, Fla., and Paul Laub (Denise), with whom she resided. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law: Marie E. Laub of Lower Saucon Township; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Karyl was predeceased by her sons: David A. Laub (Dec. 25, 2007), Roger Laub (March 24, 2011); her sister: Barbara Kugler Frey; her son-in-law: Gary Weaver (April 2, 2025); and a daughter-in-law: Susan Laub (Jan. 9, 2018).

SERVICES

Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, at Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by a funeral service at 5:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at The Union Cemetery of Hellertown, 85 Main St., Hellertown.
