Douglas J. Peffer (1952 – 2026)

Douglas J. Peffer, 73, of Lower Saucon Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, alongside his wife Deborah. Born in Bethlehem on May 5, 1952, Doug was the son of the late Maynard J. Peffer and his wife Gladys D. (Donchez) Peffer, and the grandson of the late Maynard and Jessie Peffer. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a proud member of the community. Doug was the beloved husband of Deborah A. (Mahr) Peffer, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. The couple was married on Sept. 20, 1975. For many years, Doug was employed at the maintenance department with the Saucon Valley School District, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Earlier in his career, he worked for 10 years in the mail room at the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation. A member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, Hellertown, Doug lived a life of service, mentorship and faith. He had a lifelong passion for athletics and coaching, serving as an athletic trainer, softball coach, Little League coach and high school varsity coach for both men’s and women’s teams. His commitment to youth and sports earned him recognition as Colonial Coach of the Year, and he was also a respected member of the East Penn Umpires.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his loving wife, Deborah, Doug is survived by his brother, David J. Peffer of Hellertown; his aunts, Gracyee Mikolajczyk of Hellertown and Barbara Stackhouse of Coopersburg; as well as nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents.

SERVICES

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at The Union Cemetery of Hellertown. A funeral repast will be held at The Carriage House at Heintzelmans immediately following the graveside services.
