Don’t Forget to ‘Spring Forward’
If you don’t want a potentially unhappy surprise Sunday (or Monday), you’ll need to adjust the time on your clocks Saturday night. That’s because this is the weekend when most of the United States moves from standard to Daylight Saving Time.
Officially, that change will occur at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026, when clocks will advance an hour. The traditional rationale for the change has been to provide additional daylight during the evening to benefit the economy, although the benefits of DST have been increasingly debated in recent years, with some studies linking the practice to potential cardiac and other health concerns related to losing an hour of sleep. Some parts of the United States do not observe Daylight Saving Time.
The built-in clocks on devices such as smartphones and computers normally change automatically, however wall clocks and other analog instruments of time will likely need to be adjusted manually.
Fire and safety officials also recommend changing the batteries in smoke detectors whenever we “spring forward” to DST and “fall back” to standard time in the fall.
