Helen (Rufe) Miller (1928 – 2026)

Helen Rufe Miller

Mrs. Helen (Rufe) Miller, 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Phoebe Richland Nursing Facility. She was the wife of the late Franklin E. Miller. Helen was born on Aug. 19, 1928, to the late Estella and Harvey Rufe, Durham, Pa. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Springtown, Pa., where she sang in the choir, was a longtime member of WELCA, was Chairman of the Music and Worship committee and taught Sunday School. Helen grew up in Bucks County and was an integral part of the Springtown community. She was a talented local artist and created many paintings, especially of local covered bridges, that can be found in and around Bucks County. Her creativity extended to crocheting, sewing and baking. Her coconut cream and peanut butter Easter eggs were legendary, and her homemade Halloween costumes she created for her grandkids were spectacular. Her professional career, and dream job, centered around being a teacher’s aide at Springfield Elementary School, where she created fun and inspiring bulletin boards for the classroom and taught many young children how to read.

Helen was part of a large Springtown (Miller) family and is survived by her daughters, Donna Miller and Leanne Strawn (Keith); son, Mark Miller; grandchildren, Erika Strawn-Kuntz (Matthew), Ian Strawn (Olivia) and Allison Anderson (Jonathan); her “adopted” granddaughter, Alexa Bastian; and four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Cohen, Adelyn and Cali, as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter, Laurie; her sisters, Mary, Nettie and Marion; her brother, Kenneth; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and her beloved dogs that she adored. Helen’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Phoebe Richland and their wonderful staff for their support and kindness.
