Robert Gately (1946 – 2026)

Robert Gately, 79, of Lower Saucon Township, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown. He was the loving husband of Lois J. (Haeusel) Gately, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. Born in Salem, Mass., on April 13, 1946, Robert was the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Preston) Gately. He proudly and faithfully served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Robert was employed as a computer analyst with AT&T for many years until retiring in 1998, and an author and playwright after his retirement, also doing background work in movies. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends. Robert was well known for his sense of humor, especially his nightly ritual of planning the “bad” dad joke he would share the next day.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his beloved wife Lois, he is survived by his children: Kim Swanson of Holbrook, N.Y.; Kristen Osmolia of Holbrook, N.Y.; and Kolleen (Joseph) Cassano of Ronkonkoma, N.Y. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Barbara J. Johnson of New Jersey and Glenn (Natasha) Little of Old Zionsville. Robert leaves behind his siblings: Lucy (John) O’Conner, Janet (David) Thornton, Patty Gately and George (Joellen) Gately, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

SERVICES

Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling period will be followed by a service at 2:30 p.m. A funeral repast will be held at the Carriage House at Heintzelman’s immediately following the service.
