New Sheetz in Hellertown Opens This Week

A Sheetz gas station and convenience store that has been under development for nearly a year will open to the public later this week.

The company’s newest location at 1740 Main St., Hellertown, will open at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 16, company officials confirmed Monday.

In celebration of the grand opening, customers will receive free self-serve coffee and soda the entire day, according to a news release.

A formal grand opening ceremony that will include a ribbon-cutting for the new Sheetz will be held Wedneday, July 22 from 9 to 11 a.m., with local dignitaries expected to be in attendance.

Finishing touches are being placed on the new Sheetz gas station and convenience store that will open this week at 1740 Main Street in Hellertown.

“During the celebration, Sheetz will offer major giveaways to attendees, including $250 in Sheetz gift cards and Free Sheetz for a Year,” the release said. “This new location will also welcome customers in this new market by offering free self-serve coffee and soda during the grand opening celebration.”

Sheetz said it also plans to present $2,500 donations to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Special Olympics of Pennsylvania as part of the grand opening ceremony. Customers attending the grand opening celebration are encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item to the nonprofit, and will receive a “Sheetz Swag” item (limit one per customer while supplies last from 9 to 11 a.m.) if they do.

The new Sheetz is located at Kichline Avenue and Rt. 412 (Main Street), across from the eastbound exit to I-78. It was built on a property that was previously home to a used car lot, which was demolished last year in preparation for the construction of the new development.

In conjunction with the adjacent redevelopment of the former Champion Spark Plug property–where a medical building is being completed–changes to Kichline Avenue were also made, including widening the roadway and adding on-street parking along the north side of it.

On-street parking spaces are now located on the north side of Kichline Avenue, which was widened in preparation for the development of a new Lehigh Valley Health Network medical office building and the adjacent Sheetz gas station that will open July 16.

Sheetz has another nearby location on Rt. 412 in South Bethlehem, about a mile-and-a-half north of where the new store is located. The company also plans to open a store on Rt. 378 in Lower Saucon Township, to be located outside the Saucon Square shopping center.

Based in Altoona, Sheetz operates about 10 stores in the Lehigh Valley area, more than 300 in Pennsylvania and over 830 stores in total, including stores in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio and Michigan. All stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The new Hellertown Sheetz will sell beer, but will not have a drive-thru. The chain is known for its extensive Made-to-Order menu featuring subs, sandwiches, pizza, salads, coffee drinks, milkshakes and other items. The new store will also feature both indoor and outdoor seating.\

The new Hellertown Sheetz will open Thursday, July 16 at 8 a.m. The location was originally expected to open by the end of last year, but delays postponed the opening by nearly six months.
