Herman F. ‘Butch’ Solderich Sr. (1950 – 2026)

Herman F. “Butch” Solderich Sr., age 76, of Steel City, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 26, 1950, in Allentown, to the late Herman C. and Helen (Churetta) Solderich. He was united in marriage to Rose M. Thomas on June 10, 1967, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. For 32 years, Butch proudly worked at the former Bethlehem Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, he found his greatest joys in the outdoors and on the racetrack. A passionate race car driver, Butch was well known as the driver of the #28 race car and became a local favorite at Dorney Park Speedway. Whether behind the wheel or cheering on fellow racers, his love for the sport was evident to everyone who knew him. Butch also had a deep appreciation for nature and the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and bird watching, always finding peace in the outdoors. Some of his family’s most treasured memories were made on camping trips to Canada, where they shared countless adventures, laughter and unforgettable moments together. Above all else, Butch was a devoted family man. His fun-loving spirit, warm smile and generous heart made every gathering brighter. He treasured the time spent with those he loved and created memories that will continue to be cherished for generations. Butch will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his adventurous spirit, his love of racing and the outdoors, and most importantly, the unwavering love he had for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: AnnaMay, Irene and Mary Jane; and one brother, John.
SURVIVORS
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose; his children: Herman F. Solderich Jr. and his wife, Traci, of Boyertown, Thomas J. Solderich of Freemansburg, Christina M. Crotsley and her husband, David, of Steel City, and Joseph S. Solderich Sr. and his wife, Amy, of Vero Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren: Joseph Jr., Meaghan and Joshua; and one great-grandson on the way.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown, with Pastor Ronald Stock officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Allentown.
