Back-to-School Laundry Piling Up? Hellertown Laundromat Offers a Faster Way to Get It Done.
In Saucon Valley and throughout the Lehigh Valley, kids are back in school, sports practices are beginning again and the family laundry pile seems to have doubled in size overnight.
For parents already juggling school drop-offs, homework, practices, extracurricular activities and work, finding time to wash and fold everything can be one more chore on an already crowded schedule.
Thankfully, a new Hellertown business is offering local families a way to get through those loads a little faster.
Hellertown Laundromat, which opened earlier this year at 21 Main St. in the Shoppes at Hellertown, features a spacious facility with large-capacity commercial washers and dryers designed to handle everything from everyday clothes to the bulkiest family-size loads.
The laundromat is owned by Kyle Behmlander, who also operates laundromats in Lower Saucon Township, Bethlehem, Fountain Hill and Quakertown. Behmlander spent nearly a year renovating the former dry cleaning space with his father, Steve, before opening the new location in May.
For families, one of the biggest advantages may simply be the ability to wash more clothes at once. WIth more large-capacity machines than many traditional laundromats have, Hellertown Laundromat customers can combine multiple loads into fewer, larger washes. That can be particularly useful for families dealing with a week’s worth of children’s clothes, sports uniforms, towels and bedding.
The gleaming facility also has large stainless-steel folding tables and plenty of laundry carts, making it possible to move a large load from washer to dryer and quickly fold it without having to balance piles of clothing on a cramped counter or elsewhere in the home.
And for parents whose schedules don’t always cooperate with normal business hours, there’s another major convenience: Hellertown Laundromat is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Security cameras provide around-the-clock surveillance for peace of mind.
That means a parent who needs to get a load done before the morning school routine can stop in early, while someone whose evening doesn’t end until later can tackle laundry at night.
The machines are Speed Queen commercial washers and dryers that can be operated through the free Speed Queen app, although customers can also pay with coins or tokens. The app provides some additional savings: customers who sign up using location code HELLER receive a $5 instant bonus, while every $50 loaded onto the app earns another $5 bonus. Double rewards are offered Wednesdays and Thursdays.
There’s also a vending machine stocked with laundry necessities such as detergent and dryer sheets, along with snacks and other items, which is handy if someone has forgotten something at home.
The location is another time-saver for busy families. Hellertown Laundromat is in the Shoppes at Hellertown along Rt. 412, near businesses including Starbucks, Dollar General, Hellertown Diner, Dolce Patisserie, DiMaio’s and Saucon True Value hardware store.
So instead of treating laundry as an all-day household project, parents can potentially combine it with other errands.
Behmlander says making the process easier for families was a priority in designing the new facility.
With the school year now underway, that’s something busy local parents can appreciate.
