Black River Road Bridge Reopens

A crossing that has been closed for four-and-a-half months has reopened in Lower Saucon Township.

Officials announced Tuesday that the Black River Road bridge is now open to traffic. The old bridge was removed and replaced with a new span over the summer. Initially it was hoped that it would be open before school started in the fall, but a delay was announced in August.

The new two-lane bridge was built by a PennDOT contractor to replace a 1938 span that was structurally deficient.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the public for their cooperation and understanding during the temporary road closure,” township officials said in a statement Tuesday.

The bridge is located about a quarter of a mile east of Rt. 378, near Sanbrook Apartments, St. Luke’s Hospice House and Black River Farms.
