Dorothy G. (Adams) Lund (1930 – 2026)

Dorothy G. (Adams) Lund of Lower Saucon Township, Pa., passed away on Oct. 27, 2026, at 96 years young. Born Gloria Dorothy Adams in Perth Amboy, N.J., in 1930 to Irene (Szatmary) Adams Schriebman and Miles Oscar Adams, she soon became known as Dorothy, thanks to her grandmother’s difficulty pronouncing Gloria. Dorothy had a unique childhood. She was baptized several times because her five Hungarian aunts and uncles held varying religious beliefs. Among these beliefs was a Hungarian tradition, a fertility ritual, of celebrating Easter Monday by chasing people around the house spilling scented water or cologne on each other. Dorothy sometimes accompanied her grandmother Eva (a midwife) to deliver babies and fill out birth certificates. As a young woman, Dorothy could often be found playing the piano or cheering on the Perth Amboy High football team with her friends. She was proud of attending modelling school in New York City, where she learned poise and refined her style, and she spoke fondly of watching movies at one of five movie theaters in Perth Amboy or venturing into New York City with her girlfriends via the Staten Island Ferry. She also enjoyed dances at the Y, where she met Gordon, her husband of 66 years. Dorothy was a wonderful mother to Douglas, Kjristine and Vanessa, instilling in them strong principles, a love of music and reading, and a wicked sense of humor. She also cared for several children as a nanny–Devon, Alex and Tori–loving them as her own throughout her life. As a grandmother to Tyler and Cassie, she cherished hearing about their lives, travels and passions. Music was a constant throughout Dorothy’s life. A naturally gifted pianist and beautiful singer, she took up the organ in midlife. She began as a substitute organist at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bethlehem Township and later served as organist at Christ Lutheran Church in Springtown, where she retired at the remarkable age of 90. In her later years, Dorothy’s world centered on her lovely home and garden–beautiful and well cared for, aways with a seasonal wreath on the door, flowers on the porch and a warm welcome for family and friends. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness and friendship of her neighbors, friends and church community. Dorothy once dreamed of becoming a stewardess so she could see the world. Although that dream took a different path, she passed her wanderlust on to her children and grandchildren and lived vicariously through their adventures. She treasured trips to Europe and traveled extensively throughout the United States, visiting historic properties and gardens, enjoying music and theater, and savoring local cuisine. She also loved to shop. Never extravagant, she had discerning taste and was always impeccably put together. Having never met a dog she didn’t love, Dorothy shared her life with many–most recently her beloved Gustav. Her affection extended to her granddogs, Jacques, Olivia, Miles, Luther, Walter, Clark and Ilsa, and her great-granddogs, the Pom Squad and Hershey. In later years, she also developed a fondness for wild birds, spending happy hours at the kitchen table watching the feeders and shooing away the squirrels and chipmunks. During her final days at Phoebe Skilled Nursing, Dorothy was cared for by a loving team whose kindness and support meant a great deal to her family. Several caregivers remarked that she was always kind and impeccably put together. That was Dorothy, right to the end.
