Senior Chris Smith

First of all, let’s give a great BIG Saucon Source “shout-out” to Saucon Valley football stat gurus Bob Kessler and Rob Lofthouse! Bob and Rob go way above and beyond with their efforts here. Without their number-crunching and stat maintenance, this series would not be possible. Thanks, guys. Panther Nation surely appreciates what you do!

Let’s get to it!

On this first day of honoring Panther football record holders, Saucon Source wants to recognize senior Chris Smith (#9).

Playing offensive receiver and defensive back for the Panthers, Chris is listed at 5’9”, 175. Chris cracks the record books on the defensive side of the ball. He is tied for 27th all-time in Season Tackle Assists with 24. For his career, Chris has 29 Tackle Assists which is good for the 29th spot.

Who’s #1 in Tackle Assists? Christian Carvis is at the top of the list with 129 Career Tackle Assists (2012-2015). Carvis also leads for Tackle Assists in a season with 82 (2015).

Chris said it: “My favorite football memory was the police escort to the BECA game this year. I love how we got to see the community come together to support us. Even though that was not our first escort, it felt the most special to me because I had been able to contribute to the team more this year than any other year. And, as a senior I knew it would be my last.”

Coach Sams said it: “Chris has come a long way in four years. He just started playing football as a freshman in high school. During his senior year Chris was a starting wide-receiver and had several starts at safety. Chris is an excellent stalk-blocker and a reliable pass catcher. When we called his number to catch the ball he always did. He also showed his speed when he burned by the Notre Dame secondary for his long touchdown. Furthermore, Chris has an excellent attitude. He is an extremely hard worker who was a team-first guy! I really enjoyed coaching Chris and seeing his progress.”

Congrats Chris, and best wishes in the future. The Source is with you!
