April Fool’s? No, Easter Sunday Could End With Accumulating Snow, Forecasters Say

The winter of 2018 is now turning into an early spring of discontent for some area residents, as springtime temperatures continue to moderate only very slowly, despite the fact that the season officially began more than a week ago. In fact, the heaviest snow of the season fell March 21–a day after spring began–at least according to the calendar.

And more winter weather could be right around the corner, starting late on Easter Sunday–which this year also happens to be April Fool’s Day–and continuing into Monday, forecasters say.

Lehigh Valley Weather Authority in a video forecast posted on Facebook Friday predicts that a storm will bring snow to the area during the overnight hours, over a period of about eight hours.

“Every model is continuing to show this storm,” LVWA stated, adding that “this is looking like a 1 to 3 inch event…that will be confined to grassy areas.” However, there could be some slushy accumulation on roads during the overnight hours.

“I am tracking more storms,” LVWA stated, but added “this could be our onion snow.” If it is not, however, there is the possibility of a bigger snowstorm later next week.

It is possible that the area will actually see more snow in April than it did in February, which was exceptionally warm, he noted.

In a hazardous weather outlook published Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service also noted that snow is possible beginning late on Easter Sunday.

“There is a chance for accumulating snow Sunday night which could lead to slippery conditions with the Monday morning commute,” the outlook states. “Please check the latest forecast as we get closer to this event.”

If there is accumulating snow Sunday night, it’s likely to quickly melt Monday, when the high temperature is forecast to be around 50 degrees.

By later in the week, however, forecast high temperatures are back in the 40s, which is below normal for this time of year.
