PHOTOS: St. Luke’s Sunflower Field a Place to Enjoy Nature
It’s the time of year when sunflowers burst into bloom, and if you want to see tens of thousands of them locally, you can’t beat the sunflower field at St. Luke’s Anderson Campus in Bethlehem Township.
The magnificent carpet of yellow covers nearly 60 acres, according to a recent St. Luke’s Instagram post, and is bordered by acres of wildflowers that are also in bloom, along with zinnias and cosmos.
The sunflower field was developed in 2020 to help draw the community in to the Anderson Campus, which occupies a large piece of land at Rt. 33 and Freemansburg Avenue.
According to the St. Luke’s University Health Network website, as part of St. Luke’s Arboretum & Gardens the sunflower field “serves as a tranquil space for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy nature, relax and find solace.”
Trails are woven throughout the field, which is open to the public, who are asked to remain on the paths and not pick flowers or plants during their visit. Photographers who share images on social media are encouraged to tag @mystlukes when they do.
Parking for the sunflower field is free and available near the end of St. Luke’s Boulevard, which is the main access road into the campus via Freemansburg Avenue. There is also seating available in Adirondack chairs and at tables that overlook the field.
Another highlight of the Arboretum & Gardens is The Enchanted Forest, which was developed as a natural play area for kids.
