Police: Suspect Captured Hiding in Upper Saucon Cornfield

Upper Saucon Township Police say there is no danger to the public following a pursuit that led to the capture of a man wanted by state police in connection with a car accident that happened Thursday morning.

According to an update shared on the department’s Crimewatch site, the crash happened on the ramp from Rt. 309 north to I-78 west late Thursday morning.

After crashing his vehicle, police said the man fled the scene on foot.

Around 3:15 p.m., officers were called to the area of W. Saucon Valley Road and Lanark Road for a report of a man who reportedly fit the description of the suspect in the earlier incident, police said.

“Upper Saucon Police units quickly established a perimeter of the area with the assistance from the Salisbury (Township) Police Department,” the Crimewatch post said. “Utilizing a thermal imaging drone, the suspect was located hiding in a cornfield a short time later.”

Police said a “contact team” was then formed and with the assistance of a K-9 Unit from the Allentown Police Department “the suspect voluntarily surrendered without incident.”

He was later turned over to Pennsylvania State Police officers, they added.

The post did not identify the man or say what charges he may be facing.
