On June 5, when Northampton and Lehigh county's moved into Pennsylvania's post-pandemic yellow zone, restaurants were permitted to open up outside seating areas with restrictions in place to allow for social distancing. Most Hellertown area eateries that are able to accommodate al fresco meals are now doing so.
The curbside sale of cocktails was made possible last week when Gov. Tom Wolf signed into law House Bill 327 on May 21. The law took effect immediately and allows restaurants, bars and hotels with a liquor license to temporarily sell cocktails to go.
With the huge impact the coronavirus shutdown is having on local restaurants, some have turned to crowdfunding to help support their furloughed staff, some of whom may be struggling to make ends meet. Among them are Braveheart Highland Pub in Hellertown, and Steel Club in Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township.
The weather was nearly perfect--sunny and crisp--for the second annual Brave for Brews 5K run/walk held on the Saucon Rail Trail in Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township Sunday.
