The 2016 Saucon Valley Spirit Parade will be held Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. in Hellertown… But before that can happen, a lot of work has to be performed and funding raised by volunteers.

Parade chairman David Heintzelman recently released a letter appealing for donations for the beloved parade, which is known to draw hundreds if not thousands of onlookers to the borough each October.

“One item that is always of concern is meeting the budget,” he said. “During the months of August and September, we will be raising funds to support this event.”

There will not be a bingo fundraiser this year in support of the parade, he added.

Instead, individuals, businesses and organizations are being invited to sponsor a parade division for $500. A banner featuring the sponsor’s name will be carried in the front of each sponsored division.

“Whatever your budget allows, we are most grateful,” Heintzelman said, adding that donations in any amount can be mailed to Saucon Valley Spirit Parade, 326 Main St., Hellertown, PA 18055 (checks should be made payable to “Saucon Valley Spirit Parade”).

Sponsors will be invited to be a part of a Sponsorship Division, the letter indicated.

“Show your work truck, banner or just walk in the parade to tell the community that you have helped,” Heintzelman said. Donors will be contacted about participation.

The 2016 Spirit Parade is planned to be a six-division parade, with the environmentally conscious theme of “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle.” The parade is judged by a panel of reviewers, and prizes in various categories are awarded.

Additional information about the parade, including the route and road closure information, will be detailed when the date is closer.
