Hellertown Police say an Allentown woman was charged with leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle and endangering the welfare of a child after she allegedly left a special needs child in her care alone in a car at the Shoppes at Hellertown (Spring Hill Shopping Center) in the first block of Main Street on the morning of Nov. 20.

In a news release issued Monday, police said Carol D. Sorrentino, 47, of the 700 block of S. Carldon Street, left the child alone in a car for 10 to 15 minutes.

Police said the child was “out of (Sorrentino’s) sight for the entire time period.”

Although she had left the shopping center by the time an officer arrived, police said they were able to identify Carldon through an investigation.
