Lower Saucon Township Police say a township man admitted to them that he fell asleep and crashed his car while driving south on Leithsville Road (Rt. 412) in the area of Apples Church Road early Saturday morning.

In a news release issued Tuesday, police said Michael Flannery, of the 2000 block of Leithsville Road, traveled across the northbound lane and into the road’s shoulder, where his car allegedly struck a tree.

“The vehicle re-entered the roadway in the opposing lane of travel, where it again left the road and struck another tree,” police said.

“Evidence on scene was consistent with Flannery’s statement that he fell asleep,” authorities added.

Police said Flannery was cited with careless driving.
