Victim of Lower Saucon Fire Identified

The victim of an intense fire that destroyed a home at 1426 E. University Avenue in Lower Saucon Township Monday has been identified by Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek as the home’s owner, 77-year-old Rodney Stine.

Lysek said in a phone interview Friday that Stine was pronounced dead at the scene.

The home in which Stine died is located at E. University and Connelly avenues, about a block east of Rt. 378 in the township’s University Heights neighborhood.

Lysek said Stine’s cause and manner of death are pending additional testing and the outcome of the fire investigation, which is being handled by township police and state and local fire officials.

Se-Wy-Co Fire Co. Public Information Officer Scott Krycia confirmed Friday that no additional information about the fire is being released at this time.

Firefighters from volunteer companies as far away as Springtown and Nancy Run (Bethlehem Township) responded to battle and contain the blaze Monday, which several neighbors said they feared would spread to their homes.
