In a news release issued Friday, police said Francis Lazarou, of the 100 block of W. Butternut Road, was northbound on Lower Saucon Road and traveling at approximately 40 mph Thursday morning when his vehicle “slid due to the heavy snow,” went across a double yellow line and struck a vehicle driven by an Easton man head-on.

Police said the accident propelled one of the cars down an embankment and left the other one perpendicular to the road in the center of the road.

Officers at the scene inspected Lazarou’s vehicle and “observed that the tires were bald,” police said.

The officers concluded that “the vehicle should not have been on the road,” they added.

The accident happened near Redington Road at about 8:13 a.m., according to the news release.
