A Birdsboro, Berks County man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property after he was allegedly caught driving a stolen truck in Hellertown, police said Friday.

According to a police news release, Joseph Ivan Weikel, of the 600 block of Hopewell Street, was stopped in the 1000 block of Main Street on the evening of April 15 after a registration check on the GMC dual wheel pickup he was driving revealed it to be stolen.

Police–who explained that they were conducting traffic monitoring in the 500 block of Main Street at the time–said the truck had been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as having been stolen from the Slatington area.

Following his arraignment on the receiving stolen property charge, Weikel was released on $10,000 unsecured bail pending a court hearing, police said.
