Polk Valley Playground Will Open Friday

The new playground at Polk Valley Park in Lower Saucon Township will open to the public on Friday, June 5, township officials announced in a news release Tuesday.

The playground includes a covered play structure and a swing set surrounded by rubberized mulch.

Grass has been seeded around the new ADA-accessible equipment, but it has been slow to germinate due to the lack (until recently) of rain.

For that reason, “the township is requesting that children and visitors utilize the paved walkways to access the site,” the release said.

Adjacent to the new play equipment is a large pavilion that will be outfitted with picnic tables for use by members of the public.

Rentals of the pavilion by private parties will begin in 2016.

Both the pavilion and the playground were constructed by the Lower Saucon Township Public Works Department with funding the township received from the Northampton County Park and Open Space Fund, the news release indicated.

Polk Valley Park is a 48.5 acre park that opened in 2008. It’s located at 2068 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown.

More information about its facilities is available on the township’s website.
