Donating used books to the Hellertown Area Library just got easier.
That’s because the library is now home to a used book dropoff bin from Better World Books.
The large green bin is located in the parking lot behind the library, and will help to streamline the book donation process, library employee Erin Clavier explained.
“Instead of people bringing their book donations into the library, they will be able to put them into the bin,” she said.
Clavier said dropped-off books that are in gently used condition will be resold, while those that are torn, tattered or in otherwise poor condition will be recycled. The library will receive a percentage of the repurposing proceeds from Better World Books, which also has a bin at the Southern Lehigh Public Library in Center Valley.
Clavier said HAL staff have received positive feedback from Southern Lehigh staff about their Better World Books bin.
One of the reasons for the decision to request the bin was that the ongoing used book sale inside the library will be temporarily closed during expansion-related renovations that are scheduled to begin in the fall.
The Hellertown Area Library is also not going to have its annual “big” used book sale this summer.
